Field Trips
Children love to go on new and exciting adventures. Provide them a safe way to do that by taking supervised field trips! As a caregiver, parent, or teacher, here are some things for you to think about when planning that adventurous field trip for the kids!
Benefits of Field Trips
Field trips are a vital element of a child’s education, as they provide enrichment opportunities that can develop a child’s historical empathy and critical thinking skills. Field trips round out a child’s education and help the child engage in learning.
At Noah’s Ark Child Center, we recently took children on a field trip to The Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum. The children had an amazing time learning and trying something new. It was such a joy to watch the children’s education to come to life. Add breadth and depth to a student’s education with field trips.
Field Trip Safety
When taking children out on field trips, child care professionals need to take the proper precautions to ensure a child’s field trip safety. When a child is enrolled at Noah’s Ark Child Center, we have the parents sign an “off property” permission form.
Make sure there is at least one supervisor with the children at all times, and double check all health and dietary needs of the children on the trip. If any child has an allergy, make sure he or she has epinephrine just in case. Confirm with any location coordinators of how many children will be in attendance at the field trip, and do frequent head counts so you know no little one has run off somewhere.
Field Trip Ideas
When planning a field trip for a group, consider their age ranges and what would help them grow. There are reward field trips to locations like amusement parks or movie theatres, and there are enrichment field trips to places like museums and parks. While fun and learning are both a part of any field trip excursion, keep in mind which type of field trip you are planning.
Field Trips at Noah’s Ark Child Center
In Before and After School Programs at Noah’s Ark, the qualified staff takes the children on field trips on the children’s special early release days from school. As part of our standard child care program, we take the children for walks around the block and to Peavine School, Lake Park, and occasionally Rancho San Rafael. The teachers take this special opportunity to teach the children about the environment surrounding them, the weather patterns, and proper traffic safety.
At Noah’s Ark Child Center, our summer school age program activities include field trips centered around a weekly theme. Field trip attendance by children at Noah’s Ark Child Center includes many locations in the Reno and Sparks areas. Assigning a theme to each week gives the children a focus to help children learn and grow.
During our programs we take children on enriching field trips throughout the community. We visit many Museums, the University of Nevada-Reno, and other fun places where kids can learn outside of the classroom. We also have field trips to Wild Island Family Adventure Park, Reno Aces Ballpark, and a fun bowling alley! No matter where we go, we make sure your kids are having fun!
